Vision Statement
Too many patients die from “early-stage” lung cancer. These early-stage patients are a mixed population. Some will be surgically cured. Others cannot be cured through surgery alone, but they are treatable. With adjuvant therapy, many of these patients can go on to live healthy, relapse-free lives.
Mission Statement
RiskReveal identifies which early-stage lung cancer patients are likely to benefit from additional treatment after surgery, ensuring each one has the best chance at cure. We have a responsibility and an obligation to make this test available to every patient who needs it.
About RiskReveal
For a thoracic surgeon, few moments are harder than telling patients that their lung cancer has returned. More than a decade ago, a team led by two surgeons at UCSF developed a molecular signature that could differentiate between low- and high-risk patients. They built the research case systematically, accumulating data and publishing peer-reviewed studies in respected journals. They first demonstrated the performance of the test, then showed that high-risk patients benefit from adjuvant chemotherapy following surgical resection.

David Jablons
David M. Jablons, MD, FACS led the Thoracic Oncology Program at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) for nearly three decades as Professor and Chief of General Thoracic Surgery. A graduate of Albany Medical College, he completed his surgical training at Tufts, New England Medical Center and New York Presbyterian–Weill Cornell Medical Center/Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and served as a Navy commander and Chief of Thoracic Surgery at the Oakland Naval Hospital before joining UCSF in 1997…
David M. Jablons, MD, FACS led the Thoracic Oncology Program at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) for nearly three decades as Professor and Chief of General Thoracic Surgery. A graduate of Albany Medical College, he completed his surgical training at Tufts, New England Medical Center and New York Presbyterian–Weill Cornell Medical Center/Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and served as a Navy commander and Chief of Thoracic Surgery at the Oakland Naval Hospital before joining UCSF in 1997.
Dr. Jablons was the founder and director of the UCSF Thoracic Oncology Laboratory, where his team leveraged next-generation sequencing and one of the world’s largest thoracic tissue banks to develop genomic tools for lung cancer diagnosis and treatment. A recognized pioneer in translational and precision medicine, his research has been funded by the NIH and he has been named to the U.S. News list of America’s Top Doctors, a distinction reserved for the top 1% of physicians in their specialty. He is a member of numerous surgical and medical associations, and in 2009, Dr. Jablons served as Co-Chair of the 13th World Conference on Lung Cancer, the largest international meeting focused on this disease.
Dr. Jablons is a co-developer of RiskReveal, a genomic test designed to identify early-stage non-small cell lung cancer patients at high risk of recurrence following surgery, enabling more informed decisions about adjuvant therapy and giving each patient the best possible chance at long-term survival.

Michael J. Mann, MD is a Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where his clinical expertise spans lung cancer, mesothelioma, and minimally invasive thoracoscopic surgery, as well as complex cardiac procedures including coronary bypass, valve replacement, and aortic reconstruction. He earned his medical degree at Stanford University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Stanford Medicine and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, followed by a fellowship at UCSF…
Michael J. Mann, MD is a Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where his clinical expertise spans lung cancer, mesothelioma, and minimally invasive thoracoscopic surgery, as well as complex cardiac procedures including coronary bypass, valve replacement, and aortic reconstruction. He earned his medical degree at Stanford University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Stanford Medicine and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, followed by a fellowship at UCSF.
While on the faculty at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Mann designed and directed the first clinical program for genetic manipulation during bypass surgery, an early demonstration of his lifelong commitment to translating molecular science into surgical practice. At UCSF, he leads the Cardiothoracic Translational Research Laboratory, focused on developing cellular and molecular therapies for cancer and heart disease.
Dr. Mann’s research has been funded by the NIH, and he has been named to the U.S. News list of America’s Top Doctors. He holds memberships in professional societies such as the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Mann is a co-developer of RiskReveal, having spent more than a decade building the scientific foundation for genomic risk stratification in early-stage non-small cell lung cancer, work published in leading peer-reviewed journals and aimed at ensuring that every patient receives the right treatment at the right time.
